For more than 50 years, NN, Inc.’s Precision Engineered Products Group’s thermoplastic molding and micromolding operations have been dedicated to meeting client requirements for challenging geometries and sub-micron tolerances. Solutions include overmolding of sensitive electrical components to eliminate high-cost potting operations, connectors, pin-grid arrays, and other electrical components. Our engineers use automated systems, robotics, video inspection, and testing to ensure conformance to your specifications.

The group operates a total of over 70,000 sq. ft. of molding manufacturing space with 80 thermoplastic injection molding presses ranging in capacity from 7 tons to 400 tons. Molding operations are equipped with robotic equipment capable of loading inserts, sprue removal, part separation, ultrasonic welding, and device assembly.

The Precision Engineered Products Group team specializes in highly complex mold designs. Tooling is sourced globally, compressing time and money by as much as 50% to get customers to the market quickly. The group’s clients are found across a variety of industries including aviation, aerospace, defense, utility, electronics, industrial, oil and gas, medical, and telecommunications.

Precision Engineered Products Group also offers:

  • Rapid Prototyping Services to aid in design concepts, moldability, or proof-of-concept parts creation. Prototypes can be provided in as few as 3 days.
  • Post-molding operations that include CNC machining, decorating, ultrasonic welding, assembly and insertion, and electrical assembly.
  • Communications Packages with liquid crystal polymer (LCP) resins used in near-hermetic microelectronics packaging molding. Flip-chip and multi-pin interconnect devices and direct-chip encapsulations are available.

With a state-of-the-art, temperature-controlled, metrology lab and quality system that is TS 16949, ISO 9001, and ISO 13485-registered, the group can handle the most technically challenging designs with the confidence that its products will satisfy all customer requirements.

Precision Engineered Products Group has built its culture and infrastructure around understanding the client’s demanding micromolding challenges. Manufacturing small requires the ability to measure even smaller. The group’s quality platform is based on carefully managing its critical molding processes. Micron-sized shifts are detected and understood so that the millionth molded part passes the same rigorous standards as early production pieces.

Micron Tolerance Molding

The group has established a performance-based reputation for molding micron-tolerance components. Using diamond turning and proprietary mold-making processes, it routinely produces parts with lens surface finishes within 1/4 – 1/2 wavelength, hole diameters as small as 230μm in thin walls, and concentricity of coaxial features within 10μm.

Insert Molding

Precision Engineered Products Group has served many Fortune 500 companies by delivering efficient automated insert molding cells that produce a variety of products including connectors, impellers and stators. These cells integrate process control sensors to ensure the highest quality and are designed for maximum up-time.

Micro insert molding

The group’s capabilities include manufacturing pin connectors, insert molding, plastic-over-metal, plastic-over-plastic, and plastic-over-glass. It also encapsulates ICs and Hall Effect sensors, plus performs micro lead frame stampings.


Precision Engineered Products Group has years of experience in creating and manufacturing enclosures that meet or exceed the criteria of IP-67 and IP-68. Gasket materials vary with each enclosure’s requirements. The engineering team will assist in choosing the proper sealing material for the application.

EMI/RFI Shielding

A unique process rarely seen in a custom molding facility, the group has brought electronics shielding to composite enclosures. This capability allows electronics manufacturing clients to reach beyond the standard metal enclosure and design new and unique components to house their products.
