NN, Inc. Precision Engineered Products Group Announces Validation of Equipment and Material Properties for Additive Manufacturing Processes

Provides Industry-Leading Additive Manufacturing Capabilities Uniquely Performed on Fully-Validated Machines for 3D Modeling, Direct Metal Laser Sintering, and More

Attleboro, MA — July 19, 2016— NN, Inc. Precision Engineered Products Group (PEP), a global manufacturer of highly engineered precision customized solutions serving the medical market, announced it has completed the validation and production readiness certification of its additive manufacturing Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS) process technology. The company performs industry-leading additive manufacturing (ASTM F2792), including 3D modelling for medical devices and direct metal laser sintering to expedite prototyping.

In keeping with its strategy of innovation and providing engineered solutions, NN, Inc. PEP has secured additive manufacturing equipment and has spent the last several months in rigorous development and testing in order to validate its machines and material properties.

“We are pleased to release this new technology to help our customers reach new levels of more advanced product designs” said John Manzi, Senior Vice President, PEP Group. “Along with our process development efforts, we thoroughly tested it to ensure dimensional accuracy, tensile strength, porosity, density and metallurgy all meet our customers’ requirements. Additive manufacturing and DMLS technologies can reduce costs and lead-times while enhancing product performance. We are proud to add this latest technology to our comprehensive technology platform.”

Customers who specialize in orthopedic instruments and implants have been among the early implementers of this technology. Once a design engineer has produced an orthopedic appliance, for example, in NN, Inc. PEP’s Additive Manufacturing Center of Excellence, they can immediately transition into functional testing and designers and manufacturing process developers can observe outcomes together for optimal results. As the technology continues to evolve, the company expects it will extend across the entire medical device industry, as well as into other end markets.

Clients on a global scale recognize the quality of NN Inc. PEP’s manufacturing capabilities, resulting in a rapidly growing customer base. To meet the customer demand for its additive manufacturing services, the company has appointed Dan Anderson as director of emerging technologies to help lead the initiative. Anderson has nearly 30 years of experience in the medical device industry.
